EU Category Manager Logistics

Globally active chemical company with 21.000 employees and servicing key agricultural and industrial markets. The European headquarter is based in Amsterdam and has some 200 employees from more than 25 nationalities. It also acts as an important hub of the Global Procurement Organization, with appr. 100 procurement professionals.



You report into the Head of global procurement for logistics and packaging. His team embraces 2 global category managers, 2 regional category managers, 3 operational buyers and a packaging expert.

In this role you will focus on the German speaking market, with 4 sites in Germany and Austria. The most important stakeholders are divisional supply chain teams in the region, consisting of planners, transport coordinators, im-/export departments, but also the global category manager for logistics and your manager. You will lead tender processes for transportation, warehousing and value-added logistic services, plus be the ultimately responsible person for supplier performance. Your focus will be on all aspects of QLTC.

As the basis for your job you are expected to make a thorough analysis of your category, both internal (finance data, contracts, strategies, subjective information, etc.) and external (a.o. marketdata) and develop a category strategy for the region, resulting in a rolling yearly action plan.

Additional targets will be:

  • Increase supplier service levels
  • Maintain and develop in-depth knowledge of suppliers, markets & trends in the region
  • Establish and manage relationships with internal stakeholders and suppliers
  • Address and solve escalated operational issues with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

Appr. 10% international travel is part of the job


Your profile

  • Bachelor degree
  • Solid experience in logistics procurement and/or international supply chains
  • Understanding of ADR, RID, IMO, IATA, GDP or IFS
  • Experience with TICONTRACT and/or SAP is a pré
  • Experienced in managing complex, multidisciplinary activities
  • Strong communicator and negotiator
  • Excellent command of German and English.



A max. gross salary in the position of appr. € 74.000 ( a starting salary around € 70.000, depending on your experience and knowledge), plus a short term incentive bonus of max. 7,5%.

26 Vacation days. For your pension you will be required to contribute appr. 3% of your salary.
