Company is a major global player, participating in projects with a value up to several billion €’s, in the fields of dredging, offshore and wind turbines, port construction, etc. Company can assume several roles: project developer, contractor and/or technical services provider.
The procurement spend is appr. 70% of company’s turnover.
The procurement director has 4 team leaders reporting into him: Dredging, Offshore & Wind, Operations, Category Management.
In total procurement counts some 70 employees. Category management is a team of appr. 20 persons.
Your home base will be in the Dordrecht region. You report into the manager Category management. The total spend of the category Shipbuilding (depending on the investment level in any year) can be up to € 500 mio.
Presently this category is managed by the manager category management and he is looking for a colleague who can take responsibility for at least a part of this category and spend. The category includes the procurement of e.g. crane vessels, (jack-up) barges, jacket grippers, templates for the positioning of jackets as foundation for offshore wind turbines, and also involves parts of these subcategories, e.g. the welding package, the steel itself, hydraulic equipment, electr(on)ics, cranes, etc. The categories that will be allocated to you depend on your knowledge and experience.
You will of course work closely together with your manager. Other important stakeholders are the company’s board, management of the BU’s, sales managers, operations managers, tender managers, engineers. In all aspects of your work you make sure that buy-in from your stakeholders is assured.
Whether tenders are won or not and thereby the potential for business growth, depends to a considerable extent on technological advancement. You are in a pivotal position to make a difference in that respect. Therefore and also because of the sheer value involved and the associated high visibility of the results of your work within the organization, the position is a very strategic one.
Suppliers are located in all parts of the world, with a strong focus on SE Asia and Europe. You will come to deal with issues like local content, import tariffs, transport costs, the complex steel and metals market as a result of politics and its effect on availability (export limitations) and price.
Within a number of months you are expected to generate plans for the subcategories that will be allocated to you. Buy-in from your major stakeholders is of utmost importance. You will of course do the well known analyses, but you are also fully familiar with the entire supply chain: tier 1, 2 and possibly even tier 3 suppliers, their cost drivers, performance, competitors, etc. These plans are updated on a quarterly basis as a consequence of new developments, will be implemented by you and be the guidelines for your work.

You will be based in the Dordrecht area and international travel may take 15% of your time.
- Preferably a master degree in shipbuilding or another relevant specialization
- Broad experience with sales or procurement of steel, shipbuilding and/or related categories
- Sound working experience in shipbuilding, offshore and/or oil&gas
- Strong communication skills (at all levels)
- Analytic and conceptual, yet hands-on
- Very good command of English, Dutch is not required.
- A fixed gross salary up to € 100K, depending on experience, knowledge and growth potential.
- 32 vacation days, of which 7 will be set by the company.
- A bonus of 12% at average. Half of it is determined by company performance and the other half by your results.
