Sourcing & contract manager Capex

Globally active chemical company with 12.000 employees and servicing key agricultural and industrial markets. The European headquarter is based in Amsterdam and has some 200 employees from more than 25 nationalities. It also acts as an important hub of the Global Procurement Organization, with appr. 60 procurement professionals.




You report into the ‘head of procurement indirects’.

A new, sustainable facility for the production of fertilizers  in Amsterdam West is planned to replace an existing one bij 2024.  A project with a value of appr. € 150 mio. Fully automated, Industry 4.0, with loading docks for ships, tankstorage, HEPA filters, etc.

Basic design is scheduled to start end of June.  August 2022 detailed engineering must be finished.

The month of June is needed to prepare the investment proposal. End of June the proposal will be evaluated by the company’s board hopefully resulting in a ‘go’ decision. Ofcourse an environmental permit must be obtained in that period as well.

Small investments in the existing facility during the building period are foreseen to keep it in operation and once the new facility is up and running, the existing one need to be torn down and the polluted soil needs to be cleaned.

Once the investment proposal is approved you are expected to:

  • define the project’s contracting strategy: EPC, EPCM, design & construct, FIDIC, NEC3 or -4, construction only, several contractors, etc., depending on the type of project, the company’s available resources and the locally available contractors
  • foresee contractual risks and define mitigation strategies
  • source, select and contract suppliers and contractors, starting with basic and detailed design
  • to manage the project team and contractors with respect to contract compliance, variations, claim procedures etc. during project execution.

You will closely work together with the external project director and the company’s sourcing manager plus the other project team members.


Your profile

  • Technical, Business or Legal Bachelor’s degree
  • Solid sourcing and contracting experience in a technical sector
  • Experience with contracting formats such as FIDIC, NEC, UAV and UAV-GC and with Claims, Arbitration and DAB procedures
  • Fluent in English and Dutch (written and verbal);
  • Strong communication skills, ability to deal with different cultures.
