Company is an international producer of technical equipment, has some 2.300 employees, mainly in Europe and a turnover of appr. € 500 mio. Its mother company is Japanese. It’s semi-official headquarter is based in the Hoofddorp area. This location is also an important production site.
This new position reports into the purchasing manager for the site. The purchasing manager’s team consists of 2 operational buyers, 1 senior buyer and the vacant strategic purchaser role.
There is a gradual migration towards a more centralized form of procurement, resulting in an increasing cooperation with the mother company’s European purchasing organization which is also based on the site. The company applies SAP as ERP system and is busy implementing a new WMS application on the site.
The spend in the plant is some € 30 mio. Appr. 80-90% thereof is procured by the site procurement organization, the remainder by Group procurement (e.g. electronics).
The Group expects each site to realize a cost down of 3 – 3,5%/year.
You will come to work for the production site itself. Initially you will mainly purchase technical materials (e.g. molds, injection molding plastics) and related services. At a later stage you may also become involved in indirect purchasing.
You will need to analyze your category and create a category-plan for which it will be required that you get buy-in from your stakeholders.
You are expected to lead the change needed to achieve your targets year upon year and to create a supplier base that supports company’s goals (on quality, logistics, timeliness, cost and sustainability). Tangible results are needed, in terms of savings, stock- and lead time reduction, rejection rate reduction, supplier performance. E.g. by taking initiatives on make/buy, re-engineering of parts, supply chain redesign, supplier reduction and/or supplier development. Especially supplier development and creating a strong supplier base to improve and shorten the supply chain, will be main focus areas.
You will become deeply involved in R&D projects to assure that once the production phase is reached, all suppliers are well selected and contracted.
You will also be expected to provide support in the design of new processes and a fruitful way of collaboration with Group initiatives, e.g. coming from the Group’s procurement organization.
Your more operational tasks are:
- Ensure that deliveries are according to our requirements and specifications;
- Work with Production Control teams to meet inventory targets;
- Report capacity deviation and any critical status on materials.
International travel is foreseen.
- Bachelor diploma in mechanical engineering, supply chain or business economics
- At least 5 years experience in a senior purchasing position in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with ERP (SAP) and procurement analytics software
- Experience leading cross-functional projects;
- Analytic, curious and flexible teamplayer
- Strong intercultural skills
- 5-Gen / Kaizen / 5S experience is a pré
- Strong communicator in English. Command of Dutch is a benefit.
Depending on your experience and background, the gross monthly salary is max. € 5.000, plus a commuting allowance. Fringe benefits: 27+13 vacation days, plus a PME based pension scheme.
