Function
You will report to the team lead ‘Subcontracting & Projects operations’.
You will focus on procurement for global offshore projects that the company has won. The total project value can vary from several million to billions, with procurement usually accounting for 20-50% of this. Projects are currently underway in Malaysia, Australia, and the North Sea, among other places.
Once a project has been awarded by a client, the procurement of long lead items and high-value goods and services is handled by the Contract Engineers. Project buyers support the Contract Engineers with the actual ordering and shipping of goods and services, and also focus on deliveries with shorter lead times and/or a value of up to €1 million. Depending on the scope of the project, you will be the only project buyer involved or there will be a team of project buyers, including a lead.
You will regularly have to search for and select suppliers (by requesting quotations). What you purchase for a project depends very much on the type of project, but think of piping, pipe recovery tools, lifting equipment, gases, transport, yards for dismantling offshore platforms, etc. Naturally, there is an extensive approved vendor list. You will use standard purchasing conditions, which are rarely or never negotiated. You will mainly negotiate quality (specifications), delivery time, and costs. In practice, you will frequently consult with project engineers about the specifications (drawings), accompanying documents, etc. for the goods and services to be purchased. Ensuring that the ordered goods and services are actually delivered on time (expediting) is also part of your responsibilities, as is resolving invoice issues.
SAP is used for this work.
