Our principal is a well known Dutch chemical multinational.
Tasks
You report into the European purchasing manager of the Business Group Resins. The procurement department mainly focuses on the direct procurement of BOM/raw materials (excl. packaging) for the Business Units within the Business Group, with a total spend of appr. € 250 mio.
In your role of Global buyer you will be responsible for the procurement of raw materials (mainly dioles) for the production of resins, which are applied in the production of resins, such as powder coatings, adhesives, etc.
The total team that reports into the European purchasing manager consists of 8 persons, of which 5 Global buyers, a purchasing assistant, a contract manager and a junior buyer.
You will be responsible for a spend of appr. € 45 mio.
In principle you will procure for the European plants within the Business Group, but for a number of important raw materials you will also procure for the North America region and you may come to work closely with your colleaugues in China. Where possible you will look for synergies with other Business Groups and Business Units.
For an important raw material there is a cooperation with a joint venture. You are in the lead to procure this raw material for the joint venture as well. You are aware that the cooperation with a joint venture has its own dynamics.
Your internal stakeholders are R&D, manufacturing, supply chain (a.o. operational procurement), sales directors for Europe and North America, business segment managers and your colleagues in other geographies. You are part of the operations team, together with sales, operations, finance, etc.
Within company headquarters there is a small central department that supports ‘direct procurement’ in areas such as benchmarking/best practices, marketanalysis/business intelligence, etc.
You steer your business on the following KPI’s: savings, working capital (factoring, payment term), risk management, supplier performance, % spend covered by contracts, plus on special projects (focusing on sustainability).
You will work from the plant in the Tilburg area. It is expected that you are on location 3 or 4 days/week (other days your can work from the Amsterdam location or from home).
International travel will take appr. 10% of your time.

First of all it needs to be said that the hiring manager (European purchasing manager) is looking for someone who is ‘better than he himself’. Main focus will be on soft skills. You will probably have the following profile:

The salary depends on experience and background, but can be named considerable. A bonus applies of max. 12% (depending on company performance, teamtarget and personal target), plus a personal budget of >6% of yearly gross salary to purchase additional vacation days (above 25/year), to save, for trainings or to be added to your salary.
