Our principal, based in the Dordrecht region, is global market leader in the construction of specialized ships for dredging and wet mining, and is an important player in the field of complex custom-built offshore ships. The organization has a focus on innovation, from the design stages, thru construction to life-cycle support. The newbuild organization is backed by a worldwide support organization, employing over 2700 professionals in 36 locations worldwide. Due to growing demand, the company is looking for a Lead Buyer for Dredging Equipment.
The average value per project is around € 50 mio. Purchases and subcontracting may amount to 70% of the project value. That is where you come in. Of course you are heavily involved in the construction process, closely working together with engineers, supply chain organization and the yard itself. You deal with all materials and components, needed for the new build, such as deck and drilling equipment, navigation and communication systems, propulsion, etc.
Your commercial role is to manage the supplier relationships and push for continuous improvement of their performance (price, quality, delivery time and -reliability). These suppliers are based all over the world, more and more also in the Far East.
In cooperation with your internal stakeholders, you select and make deals with suppliers, focusing on quality, logistics, cost (TCO) and risk, and assess their performance on a regular basis. This includes travelling and visiting suppliers. Internally you play a pivotal role as you collaborate with operational buyers, team leads and category managers, engineers, production management, logistics and finance. Moreover, you advise engineering, product management and sales on cost prices and performance.
a bachelors degree in a technical commercial area (preferably supplemented by Nevi 1 and 2)
more than 5 years of experience in procurement of technical products
knowledge of welded constructions and machined products
commercial know-how and excellent negotiating skills
excellent command of English and Dutch
a hands-on mentality and a service-oriented approach
