PURCHASE
The procurement team is led by the Purchasing Manager, who leads 4 teams:
- Fleet Procurement Contracting, Unit Head of Procurement Contracts with 7 tactical buyers and this vacancy, and 5 data specialists
- Fleet Procurement, Unit Head of Fleet Procurement with 9 buyers .
- Project Contracting, Unit Head of Project Contracting with 8 Contract Engineers .
- Projects Procurement, Team Head of Project Procurement with 5 project buyers .
Over the past six years, Procurement has made significant progress within the organization. The largest MRO commodities have been contracted, significantly reducing the number of suppliers.
The rest of the organization recognizes the added value of procurement and works well with improvements. Much can still be gained, as 40% of consumables and spare parts go through existing contracts (the rest is ordered by the operations department from non-contracted parties). Thus, there is still much room for improvement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This position involves sourcing, selecting and contracting suppliers and has a major impact on the organization. When you start, you are given different (sub) categories, such as spare parts and/or consumables or services. You then analyze these categories and identify areas for improvement.
You work closely with Technical Services, your eyes and ears on the shop floor, who fully understand the benefits of good procurement.
After you have contracted the supplier, you are also responsible for contract management, supplier development, supplier management, etc. In a sense, you are the supplier’s account manager.
You can analyze categories that will lead to significant process changes. Most recently, the team conducted a global analysis of all leased materials. This involved taking a critical look at which materials are structurally rented, what it costs, and whether it could be organized more intelligently. The outcome? Insight into potential savings and a stronger negotiating position with suppliers. As tactical buyer you will be given the space to initiate such analyses and to make an impact with your proposals.
