Company is part of a US company listed on the NYSE (stock exchange) with global sales of € 600 mio and approx. 2,500 employees. In the Europe region the company has production facilities in Spain, UK and in Hengelo (Ov.). In Ede is a distribution center. Furthermore, there are the regions America and Asia/China.
The company is a manufacturer of special tools. In Hengelo mainly so-called ‘heavy lifting’ solutions are produced. In the past mainly project-based, but they are working hard to standardize production.
This means that ‘low volume’ series production takes place in Hengelo. The facility in Hengelo (Ov.) has 130 employees, 90 of whom work in Production, 15 in Engineering, 10 in Supply Chain & Procurement and 15 in other departments.
There is a global procurement organization, run from the UK.
The company is very proud to have supplied all lifting equipment to Mammoet for the salvage of nuclear submarine Kursk in the Barents Sea.
Function
You will report to the manager supply chain & procurement for the Hengelo location, who in turn reports to the Operations director. The procurement team further consists of 2 (young) operational buyers, 2 senior buyers, an administrative assistant and the vacancy.
Total direct purchasing in Hengelo is approximately € 25 million, divided into the categories * hydraulics (hoses, couplings, motors) * raw material/machined parts * electronics * seals * fasteners. Here, raw material/machined parts is by far the most complex. The other categories include mainly catalog items. The spend per category is approximately € 5 million. The company has 230 suppliers (including indirect purchasing). The company currently works mainly with local suppliers.
Because the direction of the organization has changed from project-based to serial production, other demands are placed on purchasing. The company now works mainly with fixed suppliers, which means that better arrangements must be made in the form of contracts, something that did not take place until recently. This in turn means that fixed ‘parts’ and ‘assemblies’ are being worked with, which makes e.g. the availability of correct master data in the ERP system very important. Otherwise, supplier management has now become much more important, but it has yet to get off the ground. The company in Hengelo has a ‘preferred supplier base’.
In the position, you will be responsible for a category. Which one depends on your background and experience. It is important that you can work well with engineering and with your fellow buyers. You will have to help change the behavior of your colleagues who do not (yet) realize that the transition from project-based to serial production also makes other demands on the way purchasing works and is organized. You will also have to ensure that your suppliers are contracted and then properly managed. You will also be expected to help raise internal processes to a higher level; in short, to help bring the company to the next level in terms of purchasing maturity.
ERP system ISAH is used.

- HBO working/thinking level
- Tactical procurement experience in a manufacturing environment (mechanical engineering or hydraulics)
- Able to read and review technical drawings

- Salary up to approx. €80,000 gross per year (full-time), depending on knowledge and experience
- Bonus scheme: at start max. approx. 4%/year (20% determined by own and 80% by company performance). Can grow strongly with good performance
