Client
EWT has been designing and manufacturing high-quality 250kW-1MW wind turbines since 2004. Currently, more than 650 turbines have been installed in North America, Europe, and Asia. EWT also designs and supplies an increasing number of products that integrate wind with solar and battery technologies.
Enschede is home to the only factory in the Netherlands that manufactures rotor blades for turbines. The head office is located in Amersfoort, with departments for Sales, Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Project Management, Assembly, and Service & Maintenance.
Function
You will report to the Head of Supply Chain, who also manages
- A supply chain coordinator for operational purchasing and delivery expediting
- A part-time buyer
- An interim employee who is primarily involved in the implementation of Odoo as the new ERP system
- The logistics department with five employees for planning, transport, and warehousing
- A production department with 12 employees
You will be responsible for the international procurement of technical materials for wind turbines, such as towers, hubs, bearings, and gearboxes. There is currently a (too) high dependence on a number of (single vendor, Chinese) strategic suppliers, mainly because their products are “engineered” into the design of the turbines. It is therefore important that you build a strong relationship with the engineering department on the one hand and get to know the relevant global supplier market on the other, realizing that only small quantities are purchased. To structure your work effectively, you will work with your manager to develop a procurement strategy that will guide your work, focusing on risk management, supplier strategy (dual sourcing), supplier (performance) management, cost reduction, lowering the cost level, increasing reliability through the introduction of new technologies/suppliers, and KPIs. Geopolitical developments are also important for your supplier policy, which is why you will need to think in terms of scenarios.
Occasionally, you will be involved in operational work if the situation requires it. Currently, IFS is still being used as the ERP system.
You will also be expected to take the initiative to improve internal processes.
Finally, you will ensure that all requests are processed by the purchasing team.
In this position, you will spend up to 30% of your time traveling (internationally).
