Principal
Company is a UK cable (telecom, electricity, internet, etc.) wholesaler with some 175 employees and a turnover of appr. GBP 200 mio. It is nowadays private equity owned and has its main subsidiary on the European mainland in the Netherlands, near Oud-Beijerland (South of Rotterdam). Sales offices are located in Germany (near Nurnberg, Bavaria), Poland, Rumania, Spain, France, Norway, Belgium, Italy. Its customers are mainly active in oil/gas, renewables, datacenters, maritime and telecom sectors. Growth of the company must mainly come from expansion on the European mainland. Suppliers are based all over the world, Korea, Italy, Turkey, etc. The location in the Netherlands houses some 30 employees: sales, warehousing, planning, etc.
Procurement
Procurement is led by the Procurement Director, located in the UK. His staff consists of a.o. 4 Senior Buyers:
- project buyer
- stock buyer
- procurement & pricing specialist
- procurement specialist
plus 5 Buyers, an Assistant buyer and the vacancy.
Your homebase will preferably be in the Dutch office. The German office (near Nürnberg) is also a possibility, depending on your preference.
Tasks
You will be the sole procurement representative on the mainland, reporting into the Procurement director and with a dotted line to the Sales director for Europe Mainland (who is located in the Netherlands).
Your main purpose will be to strongly support the Sales team during tender processes for customers on the European mainland to obtain a competitive advantage and also during the follow-up when a new order has been won. This means performing the full procurement cycle: sourcing suppliers, sending out RfI’s and RfQ’s, finalizing the deal with the selected supplier and supplier (relationship) management. Sending out PO’s and expediting delivery will be a minor part of your job. The sourcing of new suppliers is important to achieve a sound project procurement strategy.
At the outset the position includes stock management: planning, forecasting and stock buying. It is foreseen that this task will be phased out once a new Oracle ERP system is implemented in the coming months.
Important aspects in your job are cost of goods and customer satisfaction.
You will also closely work together with your procurement colleagues in the UK, project management, warehouse and operations.
To be successful you are expected to be the key point of contact with suppliers, negotiating sound contracts, developing strong partnerships, making sure that performance is as agreed and thus securing reliable supply chains.
It is important that you maintain accurate records of your procurement and planning activities and that you provide insights-driven reports for stakeholders, offering recommendations for improvement.
Your profile
- Extensive procurement experience in the cable industry, knowledge of the supplier market for cables
- Willing to perform Inventory Management (stock planning) at the outset of your job
- Analytical, detail-oriented
- Strong communication and relationship building skills
- Full command of English is required. Command of Dutch is an advantage.
